Rounding a bend and coming upon the Bay of Kotor in all its glory is the definition of a pinch-me moment. Imagine the classic fjord view – staggering mountains and clear water – but in a sunny Mediterranean clime. The scale of it all is breathtaking; the combination never disappoints.
The Bay of Kotor is located on the Adriatic Sea in southwestern Montenegro. The bay itself is 28km long and composed of smaller gulfs connected by narrow channels. While the bay often draws comparisons to a fjord, it’s technically a submerged river canyon.
