In Oslo, we walk up the Opera House and gaze out into Oslofjord. We ride the Bergensbanen past plains of pristine snow, mountains bristling with naked trees, and ice floes adrift in lakes. In Bergen, we admire historic Bryggen and the view from Fløibanen.
Connecting Norway’s two largest cities, the Bergensbanen (Bergen Line) is a six-or-so-hour train journey between Oslo and Bergen and the highest mainline railway in Northern Europe. The route is said to be one of the most scenic in the world, traversing a breathtaking landscape across Norway over mountains and through tunnels to its destination.
