Our hike leads up into scrubby mountains with the scent of hearty tagines lingering on the air. The river winds through the valley below, silvery and barely visible, until it eventually threads the needle of the Pont de Dieu. Back at the trailhead, we order a well-earned feast.

Just outside Chefchaouen, Akchour serves as the starting point for multiple hikes of varying lengths into the Rif Mountains. One of these heads to the Pont de Dieu, a natural rock bridge over the river. Along the way, makeshift cafes serve up fresh tagines and spectacular views.
